Linux has services that run in the background almost as soon as the operating system is initialized, these services have varying uses. There are some however that are started by default that are not necessary for the operating system to function, and also that you may have absolutely no need for what so ever. A service is an application that is either running in the background waiting to be used, or which is currently carrying out essential tasks. Well, why would you want to turn these services off that your not using or may never use? Because they are using up valuable system resources. Disabling a lot of these services from starting will help increase start up times and give you some much needed resources to help increase your PC’s performance. Please note that disabling some of these services, if they are needed by Ubuntu to operate, is not advised unless you are an advanced user. I recommend if you don’t know what a particular service is after reading the description, leave it alone.
