Applocker is available in all editions of Windows Server 2008 R2 and in Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 7 Ultimate. .Dll rule collection is disabled in Windows 7 by default. The following will show you how to enable this option so you can set your own rules and control how your different users can access .dll files and .ocx files.

First, to be able to use applocker, you need to be logged into an administrator account and have a computer running one of the operating systems previously specified.

  1. Open the Local Security Policy editor
  2. Double click on Application Control Policies to expand it.
  3. Right click on Applocker and click on properties.
  4. Click on the advanced tab.
  5. (To enable dll rules) Check the enable the dll rule collection box and click on OK. ( To disable dll rules) Uncheck the enable the dll rule collection box and click on OK.
  6. When finished, simply close the local security policy editor.
